The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s Commission on Theology and Church Relations received inquiries and concerns from LCMS members in 2020 about materials published a year before by an organization called ReconcilingWorks: Lutherans for Full Participation.

In response, the CTCR commissioned three LCMS professors from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis to write evaluations of these materials from the Synod’s theological perspective.

Published in 2021, the three opinion papers are being made available by the CTCR for wider study and discussion of issues related to human sexuality, gender identity, and the teaching of Scripture regarding these issues.

Dr. Thomas Egger and Dr. Timothy Saleska issued opinions that examined a document titled Reconciling Scripture for Lutherans: Sexuality and Gender Identity.

Dr. Joel Biermann’s opinion was written in response to a briefer document titled Lutheran Introduction to Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Gender Expression.
