In the December 2017 issue of StewardCAST, LCMS Stewardship Ministry talks about how pastors and the church are called to deal with the scars of the failed stewardship of Christian stewards. Both Law and Gospel should be applied in these situations.
Pastoral encouragement for the stewards to reflect honestly on what their faithful stewardship looked like this past year is the first step. However, as the scars of the guilt from failed stewardship begin to form, it is critical that the steward leader also then show that the Lord can and does use these scars to shape them going forward. They need to be reminded that the sins that have caused these stewardship scars have been fully forgiven by Christ at the cross.
