LCMS Worship offers suggestions for Lenten Midweek services based on the theme of the Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ according to St. Luke.
During the five-week service series, the falling and rising again of five Old Testament figures will prepare us for Holy Week and the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. He has purchased and won us from all sins, from death and from the power of the devil. This is the alpha and omega of all Scripture, and it is the divine purpose of Genesis to prepare us to hear its melody and resound its praise.
The unique services of the Lenten season — Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday — are not part of the midweek service series, as the themes and readings for those days stand alone and carry their own weight.
