One reason is that the cost of Gospel ministry has grown over time, and another reason is local congregations maintain ministries because “they have always done them” instead of looking at their faithfulness and effectiveness in today’s society.
Fortunately, this wrong direction for stewardship can be tipped back through repentance, God’s Word and the sacraments.
