LCMS World Relief and Human Care – ‘Sharing’ newsletter – Sixth Issue of 2025

LCMS World Relief and Human Care - Sharing Newsletter

“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.” (2 Cor. 9:7–8)

“The Word of God is powerful,” LCMS President Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison writes in this issue of Sharing. “Nothing is more powerful for the church’s work of mercy than the very words of St. Paul in 2 Corinthians 9, which urge generosity for Christians in Jerusalem suffering famine.”

This final issue of 2025 highlights two of the ways that God’s people continue care for others — both within and outside of the church:

  • In the United States, the Soldiers of the Cross program provides assistance to current LCMS church workers in need, while Veterans of the Cross cares for retired church workers.
  • In Latin America and Spain, a second cohort of Spanish-speaking deaconesses — 49 women in all — have graduated from Concordia the Reformer Seminary and Mercy Center in the Dominican Republic and are ready to serve their churches and communities.
