“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work” (2 Cor. 9:7–8).
“God’s economy is quite different from what we might expect,” writes the Rev. Dr. Matthew C. Harrison, president of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS), in this issue of Sharing. He goes on to recount a story from a few years ago, when a generous contributor shared that the more he gave to others, the more he felt blessed by God.
During the past five years, many generous contributors have come forward to support LCMS World Relief and Human Care, and the LCMS has put these gifts to work to provide tangible acts of mercy for people all around the world.
The July 2024 issue gives an overview of this mercy work, as well as shares the stories behind two specific mercy projects:
- The LCMS Soldiers of the Cross program, which delivers emergency financial support and pastoral care to rostered church workers in crisis.
- Care for Venezuelans — both in the country and who have fled elsewhere — as they grapple with their country’s ongoing economic and humanitarian crisis.
